Of Writing Gigs, Blogging & Growth — My QodeHub Internship Experience
After my internship with QodeHub, I went back to school informed about a whole new world filled with tech and the rise to prominence of the digital age. It opened up my perspective of the world and the kind of careers I could personally start considering especially outside the trajectory of the course I was pursuing — Biological Science.
The first major thing that happened to me was landing my first major writing gig with ClickBrickTech a month after my internship. I was paid to write articles centred on occurrences and interesting things happening in the tech industry and the Digital world at large. Aside from the glee of being paid to write quasi-professionally, the experience was intriguing and very rewarding.
“I came to realize that as a writer, I had a lot on my mind to write about, and connecting it to tech came naturally to me.”
The idea of looking inward, outward and at personal experiences contributed to the organic feel of the articles I wrote and how it resonated with the people I shared the posts with. In a matter of three months, 10 + of my articles were published with at least 100 + views; with the top-performing post racking up 500+ views. Although the site was recently taken down, I’m super glad I got to have that experience. You can check them out on Facebook & Twitter though.
“QodeHub gave me tools, exposure and mentors that helped me birth my dream of providing quality music reviews!”
The second major thing which started just recently is Cyan Music Review: a Ghanaian music review blog which reviews albums and extended play records. The blog is something I always knew would come up somewhere later in my life. However, I wanted it to be something that solved a problem by offering a solution that added value in the long run to whoever patronized it. I realised what I needed was some guidance to do this, and that’s what my internship at QodeHub offered me.
My internship helped me understand the elements that went into these kinds of things like the importance of UI/UX design; keywords necessary for SEO; and generally how to optimise my content both for readers and search. I took courses and read on topics which helped tremendously. Things like managing the blog, designing images with Canva, upgrades, success metrics, performing audits, surveys and research became much easier because of the knowledge acquired from the courses and the practical experiences I gained doing them in my internship.
Cyan Music functions as a platform meant for the growth of Ghanaian music via thorough and honest reviews about the “bodies of art” that artists put out. Through this, we are encouraging artists to put out more albums rather than following the trend of building a career on just hit singles. We also hope to improve the appalling nature of the music judging system here in Ghana and award shows that are losing credibility in recent years.
“Through my internship, I got a chance to do work-study for a few months and eventually was able to come back as a National Service Personnel where I am continuing to grow and develop my digital marketing skills.”
It’s safe to say that QodeHub has played a very instrumental role in my life, both as a creative and a budding digital marketer and there’s so much I am still learning. I’m grateful for a company that offers the opportunity for young people to unearth their talents and abilities.
